Day 1: Arrival and introduction
Today you will depart the UK heading for the wilds of Swedish Lapland. You will arrive at Kiruna Airport and be transferred directly to your accommodation in Lappeasuando. Your cosy room awaits and dinner will be served in the restaurant.
Day 2: Snowshoe trek, ice fishing and Aurora presentation
If you arrived in the dark then this morning you will see your new surroundings for the first time. The landscape is wild and beautiful but to really appreciate it you must get out and about and after a hearty breakfast your guide will take you out for your first activity.
The need for snowshoes here can usually be demonstrated by wandering off without them. You’ll generally end up knee or thigh deep in snow. With snowshoes on, your guide can show you the snowy forests, the frozen lakes and river and the local flora and fauna without having to worry about digging you out.
After lunch you will try one of the most popular activities in Lapland when you go ice fishing. You will drill holes in a frozen lake and wait in hope for the fish to bite. Regardless of the size of your catch this is a wonderful way to spend time in the great outdoors admiring the stunning winter scenery.
This evening you will meet with a Northern Lights specialist who will give a photographic presentation on the Lights and explain some of the science behind this phenomenon. Afterwards you must keep your eyes on the night sky because nothing beats a live show.
Day 3: Husky safari and wilderness camp
When it comes to Arctic experiences there are few that can compare to a dog sled safari. This morning you will be given information about the lives of the dogs, their training, handling and their day to day lives.
Full instruction on how to handle a sled and team will be provided before you head off on an exhilarating safari through the Kaitum Nature Reserve. The reserve is untouched wilderness at its absolute best and there is no better way to explore than by dog sled. You will travel with 2 people per team but both will have the chance to experience the thrill of driving.
You will head back to the Lodge for a late lunch. There will be some time to relax or explore independently today before your Aurora adventure continues tonight with a night in a wilderness camp.
The camps are located far away from any light pollution and provide the ideal location from which to witness an Aurora display in all its glory. On arrival you will have coffee and a snack before everyone gets together to prepare the camp for your overnight stay out in the wilds.
Dinner will be cooked over an open fire and the Aurora will hopefully provide some after dinner entertainment before you hit your sleeping bags.
Day 4: Snowmobile safari and Aurora snowshoe trek
After your night in the camp a hearty breakfast will be served this morning and there will be time to freshen up before you head off on a snowmobile safari.
Snowmobiles allow you to explore more fully as you can travel further. Full instruction will be provided and you will travel 2 people per machine. There will be the chance for everyone to try driving should they wish (as long as you have a driving license). The ride is thrilling and the many trails allow you to get a better understanding of the scale of the wilderness.
Tonight your Aurora hunt continues in earnest with a guided snowshoe trek. Your head torches will illuminate the silent forests and hopefully the Northern Lights will illuminate the skies. Your guide will lead you to a local view point where the views of the night sky are unobstructed.
Day 5: Departure or extend your stay at the ICEHOTEL®
Today you head home or alternatively you could choose to extend your stay with a night in the world famous ICEHOTEL®. The ICEHOTEL® is a monument to snow and ice architecture and if you fancy a night in some very ‘cool’ accommodation then please see the price box for details.
